An Evening with Princess Leia

We're in California, continues...

Last night we went to the theatre, a rarity when we are in California. We went to Berkeley Rep to see Carrie Fisher!

First we had dinner at Downtown, one of our favorite restaurants in Berkeley. We got to the restaurant extra early because I wanted to have plenty of time and not have to rush to get to the theatre. It was yummy. We had pink champagne and, yes, we were very bad and had dessert.

Then we walked across the street to the Berkeley Rep Theatre to see Princess Leia, er, Carrie Fisher. She was great. It was just her, talking about her life, with some hilarious visual aids and a little audience participation.

I have actually seen Postcards from the Edge so I knew some of the scandals/stories about her. She went into more detail and it was a combination of sad and hilarious. She's very clever and has a quick wit. Of course, she made fun of her role as Princess Leia, including a wig of her famous bagel hair style. It was really fun seeing her on stage and a fab evening excursion!

John made funny faces when I took photos of him, as usual, so of course I had to make a comic.

Turkey Dating

We're in California, continues...

Yesterday the turkeys spent the day apart. The male turkey was out back in the forest, the gurl turkey was on the hill in the front of the house. Maybe she's playing hard to get. Hmmm...

The Princess Pumps Gas

Jan is in California, John is in Stockholm, continues...

It turns out that electric cars need gas. Sigh. Ok get ready, I know this is going to be a shock but: I have never put gas in a car.

Seriously. John is the one who does 99.9% of the driving and puts gas in the car, air in the tires, etc. I hate driving. In fact, truth be told, I am terrified of driving. I do it when I have to, or when it's just around our little neighborhood to the grocery store. But since John is away for a month I'm going to have to do some serious driving (for me), for example, to the new house which requires driving on the highway (shreeeek) and over a bridge (omg) and more highway (damn) and then up a little windy one-lane mountain road (holy shit). Yikes. On second thought, maybe I should think about a car service.

Anyway, a couple days ago I noticed the fuel indicator only had 3 bars on it. Damn, time for gas. Considering the complete idiots I see out there driving (which is one of the reasons I'm afraid of it) and the fact they can put gas in their cars, how hard can it be? I asked our friend Bob to go with me in case I had any questions or couldn't figure it out. It went surprisingly well. I had Bob take some photos for the blog because it's just too hilarious that this was the first time I've pumped gas.

Ok, here we go:
