Jan and John -- I just wanted to congratuate you on your exciting move! I love reading about all of your adventures, and enjoy living vicariously through you (London holds a special place in my heart, as I lived there for a while and consider it my favorite city in the world!). As a quick (albeit random) question, since you both are so amazingly technologically savvy, is there a webcam that you use and recommend? I am moving to D.C. from Boston -- and away from my boyfriend, sadly -- and I'd love to get webcams to keep us connected (and also allow us to speak through the computer). With that being said, do you have a product that you and John use and find to be reliable and relatively user-friendly? Thanks for your help, and for your blog -- I adore catching up with what you're doing every day!
And thank you, Julie. I sent you a private email but here is my response also.
We use the webcam's that are built into the iMac and the MacBook. It does the sound too so you don't need a headset. Since we use Mac's I don't have a recommendation for PC for what webcam to buy, sorry.
John and I use Skype to keep in touch when we are in different countries. It has video and audio and is free when you chat computer to computer. We also use the Mac iChat which is not as reliable in terms of connectivity but the video quality is better. Skype works on both PC and Mac.
